Ahead of this weekend’s opening round of the Two-wheel Indian National Rally Championship (2W INRC) in Bengaluru, TVS Racing has signed its first woman rider Shreya Sunder Iyer to their team
Shreya is the first woman rider to be a part of any racing team in India.
Shreya who has a dream of building a career in motor racing began riding at 17 and became the first Indian woman rider to successfully complete a ride across the sand dunes in Dubai.
She has ridden extensively across India including the isolated Suru valley in the Himalayas and also completed a rigorous Southern India biking expedition of 2,000 kilometers in just 6 days.
In a statement, Arvind Pangaonkar, Head of Team TVS Racing said, “We believe that her participation will encourage women to consider racing as a career. TVS Racing is strongly committed to promote 2-wheeler racing in India and generate interest and improve support for the sport in India. We make continuous efforts to take the sport to as many section of the society as possible and create the ultimate machine and promote the riders for these machines.”
Shreya Sundar Iyer added, “I am proud to be a part of the TVS Racing team. TVS Racing is by far the best Indian racing team with the best motorbikes and trainers. This association will help me work with the best in class machines, racers and technology. I also hope to encourage young bikers, especially women to follow their passion for racing and live their dreams.”
TVS Racing began 33 years ago when Sundaram Clayton Limited (a TVS Group company) introduced its 50 cc mopeds into road racing. Since then it has been actively participating on and off- road racing events such as road racing, Super-cross and Motocross, Dirt Tracks, Rally etc.
In early 2015, TVS Racing became the first Indian factory team to take part in the Dakar rally, which is the longest and toughest rally in the world.
