Veer Patel opened up crucial lead in the 5-leg National Supercross Championship when he cruised ahead of defending champion Aravind KP in the second leg too, at Ahmedabad though he had to let go three points as compared to double win in Pune last week.

Riding on Honda CRF 250 bike, Veer won Moto 1 ahead of two TVS Racing Bangalore bikes where Aravind finished fourth, to show that his wins in Pune were not a flash in the pan. Aravind, however, won Moto 2 to take the fight to Veer, but the Honda driver kept himself in contention and took the runner-up position to earn 17 points for an aggregate of 37 from second leg.

Sunday’s show gave Veer a commanding lead with 77 points while Aravind was at 61 points at the championship takes six-month break. The next legs are scheduled in November in Jaipur and Chandigarh with final leg at Cochin.

Aravind finished second overall with 31 points followed by Harith Noah, also of TVS Racing, Bangalore, came third earning 30 points from two races.

Aravind, however, had the consolation of winning Indian Experts Group B class astride TVS RTR 160, in a race that saw TVS Racing Team sweep all places on the podium. Harith Noah and Adnan Ahmed finished second and third behind Aravind.

Yet again, individual entrants made hay in the prime events against the company-backed team. In Private Foreign Open class, Allan Sequiera of Goa won on his Kawasaki 250F, while Bangalore’s Naresh VS grabbed the No 1 position riding Yamaha RX 135.

Javed Shaikh, who won in Pune, was second in Private Foreign Open Class followed by Revat Dhillon, also on Yamaha RX 125. Pune’s Vishal Barguje came second behind Naresh in Private Experts on his Yamaha RXZ 135, followed by Kolhapur’s Sachin Ghorpade on TVS Fiero.
