26thJUNE 2016 – Coimbatore- the 2nd round of the MRF MOGRIP FMSCI National Supercross Championship 2016 was held here at CODESSIA on Avanashi road in Coimbatore. The Supercross event witnessed a packed stadium and over 125 entries from riders across the whole nation. This event proved to be one of the most popular events for riders in the past several years due to the great racing atmosphere and crowds in Coimbatore.
The track was very demanding and had a combination of 2 tabletops and 14 double jumps and smooth corners. The weather was just perfect with an overcast sky with moderate temperatures and the riders thoroughly enjoyed racing in these conditions. Due to the focus that MRF, FMSCI and GODSPEED Racing have invested into the growth of this sport in India there has been a surge in participation and spectatorship in this National event. This event in Coimbatore was organized by GODSPEED Racing headed by Shyam Kothari in association with NS Racing, Coimbatore headed by Kannan.
The race was dominated by TVS Racing Team. The most prestigious Class which is the SX1 saw Aravind K.P (TVS Racing) winning the overall class and his teammate Rugved Barguje(Team TVS) coming in second.
This event also saw the participation of new rising force-LORRAINES RACING who made their debut here in India at the last event in Goa. Their star player Yash Pawar placed 2nd overall in the SX 2 class.
The SX 2 class for ‘privateers’ on foreign machines was a cracker of the race with a hard fought battle between Rugved, Yash, Adnaan and Vishal and it went down to the wire in both motos keeping the crowds on their feet with Rugved pulling off a stunning overtaking maneuver on the penultimate lap which Yash was leading.
The highly coveted title for the Locals class was a tight battle with 18 members strong grid but it was Jagdeesh Kumar a very popular local boy who took top honors in this class.
A special mention to the JR SX with all the participants being under the age of 15 years and some as little as 7 years old. These children were the real heroes in the eyes of the fantastic crowds and even received a standing ovation as they took a victory lap around the track.
The Chief Guest of the event was Shri.Karthik -MLA. D.M.- MRF Mr. Amarnath- flagged off the event and did the honours.
The event was sponsored by MRF MOGRIP and in association with the TVS Motor Company, IOC- Servo and Sidvin Core-tech. The medical facility was taken care by PSG hospital.
