Ahmedabad: Flamboyant Vadodara rider Veer Patel lost a massive lead as he fell while showboating on the final of his six laps of Moto 2 to lose first spot to Aravind KP of TVS racing in the MRF National Supercross Championship 2012 (2nd leg) at The Ganesh Housing Limited grounds,Thaltej here on Sunday.He finished second in spite of the fall.Patel had won the earlier Moto 1 in which his main competitor Aravind ended fourth.

Veer had taken an untouchable lead over the first four laps in Moto 2 the grand finale of the day.Egged on by a vociferous Ahmedabad crowd mesmerized by the high-flying action,Veer had flown higher and higher with every lap at the jump on the tabletop segment of the track which drew roars from the pavilion.

As he ended the penultimate lap Patel flew even higher than before when aconservative jump would give him the win and made a bad landing.He fell,and the minute he spent to recover cost him dear as Aravind flew past and rode out the last lap safely to take the chequered flag.Patels lead was so huge that only one rider passed him.

With the second rounds action Veer Patel opened up a crucial lead in the 5-leg championship when he cruised ahead of defending champion Aravind.Patel had a double win in Pune last week.Riding his Honda CRF 250 bike Patel earned 17 points for an aggregate of 37 from second leg.
Sundays show gave Veer a commanding lead with 77 points while Aravind was at 61 points as the championship takes a six-month break.The next legs are scheduled for November in Jaipur and Chandigarh with final leg at Cochin.Aravind finished second overall with 31 points followed by Harith Noah,also of TVS Racing,Bangalore,came third earning 30 points from two races.

Individual entrants made hay in the prime events against the company-backed team.In Private Foreign Open class,Allan Sequiera of Goa won on his Kawasaki 250F,while Bangalores Naresh VS grabbed the number one position riding Yamaha RX 135.Javed Shaikh,who won in Pune,was second in Private Foreign Open Class followed by Revat Dhillon,also on Yamaha RX 125.Punes Vishal Barguje came second behind Naresh in Private Experts on his Yamaha RXZ 135,followed by Sachin Ghorpade on a TVS Fiero.
