Jacob Buren is one of the upcoming motocross rider from Rogue River. His weekends are devoted to practices at Track. We catch up with this champion an online conversation
First, talk a bit about you
My name is Jacob Buren, I am 22 years old. I have been riding motocross sense I was 6 years old. I grew up in a small town in Rogue River, Oregon located in the Pacific Northwest. I grew up racing motocross with my younger brother. What a great family sport. My Father was our coach and mechanic and my Mom was promoter and made sure we had what we needed to race! I am currently in the U.S. Army and will have served my term in November of 2020. I was lucky enough to be able to race and ride while serving my country. Now I am working on plans to further my racing career. I turned pro when I moved to Clarksville, Tennessee when I turned 20 years old.
How you got into riding, your journey through
Well my parents both raced motocross in the 1980’s so naturally they got me dirt bike as soon as I was big enough to ride one. I was about 6 years old. They started me on race bikes and had me racing all the time. I found out early I don’t have much fear. Which gave me an advantage over other riders. I would jump about anything and was never afraid to ride fast. I love to ride and I have been riding ever since.
Who is your inspiration?
What really inspires me is seeing all the kids at the track that look up too me that gives me the motivation to put in the work to perform on the track.
What type of physical training do you engage in to prepare yourself for racing?
Motocross is an extremely physical demanding sport. If you are not physical ready you will not last 30 minutes at fast speeds. I do CrossFit style workouts every morning. You also have to eat a very healthy diet. I run cross country for endurance. You must stay in shape to be great at motocross.
What has been your greatest accomplishment to date?
My greatest accomplishment was a top 10 at Supercross futures in Nashville,TN.
What are your long-term goals in motocross?
My long-term goal is to make riding Motocross my full-time job. I want to be the best, I can’t stand to have someone in front of me. If they beat me I am going to figure out how I can beat them the next weekend. I want to win a championship in motocross!
What other sports do you enjoy doing?
Other sports I enjoy include BMX( I find it is another way for me to train) snowboarding, rockclimbing or anything else I can get my adrenaline pumping!
About our sponsors
Deep dirt RTD they have motocross riding apparel. JMP performance cycles and Danny Dunn at Dialed suspension( by the way best suspension I have ever ridden with) I try hard to promote my sponsors every chance I get! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate them helping me reach my goals!
You get an opportunity to race in India will you accept ?
Of course I would, it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Not only would I get to experience your culture and you beautiful country, I would get to do the thing I love to do the most racing motocross! I could just keep racing in the States but I love to travel and explore new places! If you were not racing motocross, what career path would you have chosen? If I was not racing motocross I would probably be going to school right now and working on my degree in mechanical engineering . I may pursue that when I am older. But for now I want to race!
During the offseason, what do you do for fun?
Luckily there’s tracks open year-round so I don’t have an offseason!
What advice can you offer to a young rider who wants to become a professional motocross racer?
My Advice to anyone that wants to become a professional racer is not to give up. It takes hard work and dedication! Keep learning and training anything worth having is worth working hard for! Ask for advice from better riders then yourself. I would tell them to go try out some motocross training camps. Also I am always here to help anyone that loves Moto!
