Pramod Josua of Team TVS produced a flawless display on his TVS 125 X to emerge supreme in the Foreign Motorcycles upto 260cc Indian Expert class, in the fourth round of the Gulf Dirt Track National Championship for two-wheelers in Gurgaon
As scheduled the event was flagged off at9:15 a.m.by Shree. Abhay Yadav, Addl. Deputy Commissioner- Gurgaon.
The riders from all overIndia had accumulated to strive for the honors. All dressed in their safety riding gear was a pleasure and thrill for the spectator who had come to cheer. Total 148 entries were received.
The young Pinkesh Thakker from Pune won both the races in the Private Expert Championship in Group B Motorcycles upto 260cc class to deservedly pick the title of best rider of the meet, sponsored by Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd., organized by Sportscraft, held under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India. In addition to the trophies he won from each class, he took home prize-money of Rs.6000/-.
The penultimate leg of the National Championship for two-wheelers, at the Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, Kadipur, was thrilling all the way Natraj from Team TVS was always under pressure. Challenging him all the way was Arun Babu also from Team TVS both riding TVS Shogun he won the Novice Championship 80cc – 150cc Group D – 2 stroke class to finish second overall. Shyed Asif Ali was third on his Yamaha.
Despite a cool breeze blowing, the hot and sultry conditions were a deterrent to the 120 who participated. It was not only the seasoned campaigners who caught the eye but also novices, like –Atul Singh on his Yamaha RX. Their raw courage and skillful riding provided good entertainment for many motor sport lovers and encouraged for up and coming riders who turned up at the Government Senior Secondary School.
There were 49 novices and all more than displayed their dexterity in handling their bikes in trying conditions.
In India, Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd., has now emerged as a strong player in the motor sports arena continuously sponsoring many motor racing events, amongst them being the Gulf Dirt Track National Championship, Gulf Autocross, Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally and also Gulf Foster-A-Child Rally.
The course laid out by organizers Sportscraft was really tough. In addition to the sharp bends and steep gradients the riders had to negotiate, there was also loose gravel and water-logged areas which made staying in the saddle dicey. Many riders, particularly the first timers, lost their balance and took a tumble or two.
Overall, after the penultimate leg, Pramod from TVS racing team leads the race for honours in the Indian Expert Championship – Motorcycles upto 260cc, Group B with 117 points. R Raja with 100 points is placed second while Snehal Chavan is third with 84 points.
With a narrow margin separating the top riders one can be sure a battle royal during the finals.
The Novice Championship Motorcycle above 125cc upto 160cc Group D 4 stroke class was won by Arun Babu. The young rider, riding a TVS Fiero did well to finish best among his class. There were 49 novices. participating in various categories.
Fahad Khan & Atul Sigh were was best in the local category in their classes
