The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) met in Chennai on Thursday (December 24) to open and give championship rights based on the bids received from various clubs, organisers and promoters.
Four-wheeler Indian National Racing Championship will consist of two series: the MMSC FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship and JK Tyre FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship. The only change from the previous year is that the Volkswagen Vento Cup will run along with the MMSC events but otherwise all other classes in the respective championships will remain the same.
The FMSCI Indian National Karting Championship will continue to be run by the existing promoter Meco Motorsport.
Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC), India’s oldest club and also owner of an FIA Grade 2 track in Sriperumbudur, has been giving the following championships:
The two-wheeler FMSCI Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship.
The two-wheeler and four-wheeler FMSCI Indian National Drag Racing Championship.
The newly-introduced two-wheeler FMSCI Indian National Dirt Track Championship.
The bid for the FMSCI Indian National Autocross Championship was presented by Northern Motor Sports Club and also give to it. The club organises the famous Desert Storm event and having organised maximum number of autocross events in India since 2000, the championship was awarded to the club. This championship is significant in that it gives an entry path into motorsport for the common man. This helps in the promotion of motorsport at the grassroot level.
Lastly, a very interesting presentation was made by the Himalayan Motor Sports Association, Shimla. The HMSA organises India’s flagship event – the Raid de Himalaya – which is one of the toughest events in the world.
The HMSA has been awarded the FMSCI Indian National TSD Rally Championship. The club has been awarded this based on the fantastic presentation and very unique and futuristic model of the championship. This should see participation improving significantly.
Even in the Raid de Himalaya, the number of TSD participants is significant and, the event being a platform for global participation, was one of the main reasons for HMSA being awarded the championship. The FMSCI Council was delighted with the outcome and the resources generated will be used for the development of motorsport in the country.
