Shabuddin Sayed’s love for riding and racing began at an early age and now he is upcoming motocross rider from Goa .With his parents’ permission, Shabuddin got himself his first bike, the Yamaha RX 135, at the age of 16. There on he went to participate in several racing championships within the state and around the country. Today, he owns three bikes – an Apache that he uses for four stroke racing, a RTR and the Yamaha RX 135 that he uses for stock class racing.
After turning professional in 2007 Shabuddin has ridden for various teams including Team Goa Racing and Team J S Racing, Mumbai. He has participated in over 60 races held across the country and his recent laurels include 1st place in Fast Track Racing, Navelim and Ajmera Island Race, Mumbai and 3rd place in Dirt Track Race, Belgaum and KTM Race, Goa. This reigning champion of Goa for the last four years displays his 29 trophies (10 National and 9 All Goa) with a lot of pride.
While many think bike racing is all about speed, Shabuddin says that there’s a lot more they have to train for. His training regime is rigorous and includes exercises to build stamina and body strength. Stamina is of utmost importance – in fact much more than that of a football player, as the biker has to carry the bike, jump with it and at times even push it depending on the terrain. He makes it a point to practice regularly irrespective of whether there is a championship coming up or not. For the technicalities of the sport he has trained under Ashley Gomes, watches a lot of videos on racing to pick up tricks on motor cross, besides seeking advice from national champions like C S Santosh, the first Indian to get selected for Deccar Rally World Championship, and K P Arvind, the current national champion.
