South Africa was a wonderful experience. I never thought I would get to experience the nature and wildlife at such close quarters amidst an unparalleled racing spirit. Safari 1000 was worth all the travel hassle and last minute visa runs.
I still remember how the fate of this rally and my participation hung in balance up until the very last moment. The day I received confirmation from authorities that the rally is on, I rushed to get my Visa issued. With looming travel for Desafio in Argentina, everything was a close shave.
Though weather here was as cold as in Argentina, there was all the warmth in hearts. I got immense support from the Factory KTM dealer South Africa who helped me to get my bike ready and even helped me arrange the transport.
Racing with the company of Anthony Raynard and Kerim Fitz-Gerald was a huge adventure. Stages were short but fast and my KTM 450 EXCF proved nimble enough, affording me the podium finish. On Day 2, I had a massive crash that hurt my ankle real bad. I was doubtful I would be able to continue the next day but thanks to the amazing medic team, I was up in no time. I started Day 3 feeling optimistic and finished within a close margin of the win. It was a good run. I’m super stoked to have finished 2nd in my class, securing my first international podium.
