Jaisalmer, August 18 th 2018: TVS Racing’s Lorenzo Santolino was followed by CS Santosh of Hero Motosports Team Rally and Abdul Wahid Tanveer from TVS Racing at the second and third spot respectively in Moto Category of India Baja 2018
The first day saw top contenders closely following each other in an intense neck-to-neck battle. At the time of the announcement of partial provisional results for Leg 1, Santolino was at the numero uno position in the Moto Category with total time (Leg 1) of 2 hours 6 minutes 9 seconds.
Spain’s Santolino was closely followed by India’s CS Santosh, who is representing Hero Motosports Team Rally, with timings of 2 hours 11 minutes 3 seconds and previous India Baja’s podium finisher Abdul Wahid Tanveer, who is representing TVS Racing, with timings of 2 hours 36 minutes 39 seconds at the second and third positions respectively.
Being a ‘Road to Dakar’ challenge, one of the just three such challenges held across the planet, the winner of the India Baja 2018 will get a direct gratis entry to the 42 nd Dakar Rally to be held in South America in 2020. The winner will also be entitled to a complimentary entry to Morocco’s Afriquia Merzouga Rally of 2019. The total monetary advantages to the winner of the competition amount to €20,000, which covers the registration fee for one motorcycle in both the events.
The Leg 2 of the competition, consisting of SS 4 and SS 5, will start early morning and end around 2 PM. The winners of India Baja 2018 will be announced at a grand prize distribution ceremony to be held at the competition base in Hotel Jaisalkot, Jaisalmer.
