In a major disappointment for Indian motorsport fans, Aravind KP from Sherco TVS Rally Factory team is out of the Dakar Rally 2018.
The 30-year-old rider in his second attempt in the Dakar Rally has been forced out after a crash in stage 5 which started from San Juan De Marcona and finished in Arequipa in Peru.
The fifth stage was one of the toughest stages so far with 508 km liaison section and 226 km of the special stage making up for a total of 774km. Aravind was in promising 44th position after the fourth stage of the world’s toughest rally raid.
Aravind said “After yesterday’s crash, I am feeling better now after getting medical attention. I would like to thank all my fans and well-wishers for their love and support all through Dakar. The doctors in Lima have informed me that I will require surgery once back in India. So I am focused on staying positive and recovering quickly so that I can get back on the bike quickly”
Withdrawal of Aravind means Hero MotoSports’ CS Santosh is the only Indian rider left in Dakar 2018
