What better event to kick off the motor racing program in Mumbai city than the Gulf Foster A Child Car Drive event – the event with a difference, which aims to make a difference to all the participants, and more significantly the orphan and underprivileged kids who will be an integral part of the event.
From past six years Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd., has been sponsoring this event and every year the event is being organized differently with some changes which makes the Participants as well as the underprivileged children feel different. What is unique and sets this event apart from the others is the presence of about 50 wide-eyed orphans from Our Lady’s Home, Parel and St. Anthony’s Home Byculla. No doubt, this being a classless event it means that any person with a valid driving license can take part but additionally each car’s crew will be made up of a driver, navigator and minimum one child plus one orphan / underprivileged child. This will spell a new experience for the kids, as according to Director of Our Lady’s Home, Father Rui Camelo who noted, “This event helps to widen the horizons of the children, some of whom have never traveled in a car. They get to experience different things and interact with people from different walks of life and overall come back happy with the experience.”
Another unique aspect of the event will be that participants will be handed over route charts one minute before their flag off time. This route charts enables them to follow the route – set by the organizers – from start to finish And yes the participants will have to provide the right answers to the questions posed for the drive will be broken up by certain pit stops along the route. At these pit stops every participant will be asked a question. On the basis of the correct answers and duration of the event, the winner will be chosen.
The event involves no speed or racing. It is only about steadfastly and effectively following the tulip chart and checking in at various pit stop. So, come in at your Sunday best for there is a special prize which involves a trophy with a gift hamper for Best Dressed Team including the orphan child, and also for the Best Decorated Car. Ladies especially will have to be at their sparkling best for the about 55-kilometre event as there are special prizes earmarked for All-Ladies team too.
